11/8/2022 0 Comments Dig dug inflation![]() ![]() * A kill screen is a level in some game that stops the player’s progress due to a programming error or design oversight. The arcade version of the game ended on level 256 mainly because the level is basically a kill screen. More monsters will appear after every level and they will also move faster than they previously were able to. The number of flowers you see in the uppermost right corner of the screen will tell you the level you’re on. This will cause the game to be stuck on that level but, can be resolved by simply making a rock fall. There is a glitch that occurs wherein players are able to get rid of every enemy on the screen if they’re able to get drop a rock on an enemy while pumping them up at the same time. The most points you could receive from a bonus item used to be 8000 and that was from the pineapple which you would find in the 18th round of the game and every level after that point. *you can even get these bonus items if you don’t crush any enemies. Bonus items can be anything from basic veggies to the ship from the popular game Galaxian. Once you drop 2 rocks a bonus will show up in the middle of the screen – if you get it before it goes away you’ll receive a bonus item. You also gain 10 points by simply mining. You can also get extra points if you’re able to kill enemies via crushing rather than exploding them. Also, note that Fygars are worth double points if you’re able to explode them horizontally – this is because they’re only able to breathe fire horizontally so it’s more of a challenge to destroy them in that way. The further down you’re able to get an enemy to explode the more points you’re rewarded. *remember that every final enemy on each level will try to escape to the surface and off the left-most side of the screen. When underground the monsters can also lose their physical form and turn into “ghost eyes” which allows them to travel through solid dirt (but it does slow them down a bit). While on the surface monsters are only able to move horizontally, however, when they’re underground they’re able to move both horizontally and vertically through tunnels. Now, while the enemy is deflating you can also pass through it safely. It also works wonderfully well if you want to make sure that your enemy stays underneath a rock that you’re planning to crush it with. If your aim is to simply stun the enemy partial inflation is a great way to do so. If a monster is only inflated partially it will eventually deflate and return to chase Dig Dug again. However, to do so players must pump the player up 3 to 4 times until they explode. One of the ways players are able to destroy enemies is via pumping them up with their weapon. You must be careful as you do this though as Dig Dug can die if he ends up being caught by either of the 2 enemies (Pooka and Fygar) or being burned to death by Fygar Fire, or even squashed via rock fall. The 2 different enemies you’ll encounter during gameplay are the Pookas and the Fygars.ĭuring gameplay you, the player will be Dig Dug, a tiny person garbed in US flag colors, Red/white/blue who has the ability to dig tunnels underneath the earth. It seems very simple, right? The means by which Dig Dug destroys these enemies is through either inflating and popping them using an air pump or dropping rocks on top of them. It was initially introduced to the public as a basic arcade game but, over time had versions of itself released for the PC, standard video game systems, and for Nintendo. Even though Namco is the company who produced Dig Dug initially it was later picked up by the game developer Atari. While there is very little information available on the game’s background story there are bits and pieces available that help us gain an understanding of what was going on as it was being developed.
